What is an allergist/Immunologist

An Allergist and Immunologist physician is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease and asthma. They complete 4 years of medical school,     complete a general residency in internal medicine or pediatrics and must pass an exam to become Board Certified.

Asthma Management and the Allergist

In the United States, the prevalence of asthma grew from 7.3 percent in 2001 to 8.4 percent in 2010, and is now at its highest level.  Asthma afflicts 300 million people worldwide, including nearly 26 million in the U.S. Of those affected, 7 million are children.

Our treatment plans at AAIR of Charlotte are detailed and thorough with special attention to individuals.

Allergies are overreactions by the immune system to stimulants typically harmless to most people. When this reaction occurs, the body produces antibodies that can be detected in blood. Because of this, testing someone’s blood can determine whether or not they have a specific allergy. Learn More >>

Exercise Challenge

Do you find yourself wheezing, coughing, or dealing with a tight chest when you engage in mild exercise? Are you constantly battling shortness of breath or chest pain, as much as five to 20 minutes following a light jog? If so, you may be experiencing the effects of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, or EIB. Learn More >>

Food Challenge Test

When you’re enjoying a nice meal, the last thing you want is to have a negative reaction to the food. Eating a food you are allergic to can cause hives, swollen airways, or digestive issues. Don’t take the risk—take a food challenge test. Learn More >>

Allergy Drops

Sublingual immunotherapy(SLIT) is an alternative way to treat allergies without injections. An allergist gives a patient small doses of an allergen under the tongue to boost tolerance to the substance and reduce symptoms. Learn More >>
